My tutoring journey started on April 17, 2013, when two friends and I founded Mount Olive Math Tutors. The program was incredibly successful, as we were able to help over 40 students before we graduated high school and left for college.
I attended Virginia Tech from 2014 – 2020, and left with a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering Major and Math Minor in addition to a Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Since joining the College of Engineering, I have had the opportunity to work on several research projects in the Math, ESM, and Mechanical Engineering departments. Through these research projects, I was able to apply what I was learning in class.
In August of 2015, I began working as a tutor at the Student Success Center and became CRLA Level 2 certified. I was a Certified Lead Tutor for 3 years, which allowed me to work closely in training new tutors, as well as enhance our program to be able to help more students more effectively year over year.
In January 2016, I began working as an Instructional Assistant at the Math Emporium, where I helped students in all of the Virginia Tech online math courses. In January of 2017, I took a break from school to pursue a 2 semester co-op with GE Appliances in Louisville, KY, where I was able to develop my professional skills and gain some real world experience about product design and testing. I have also done summer internships with Volvo Trucks, Eastman Chemical, and ExxonMobil, where I worked on mechanical design, fluid system modeling, and project cost and schedule management. Because of these experiences, I am able to teach the tools that we learn in school and relate them to the tools that we use in industry.
Currently I work as a Project Engineer at ExxonMobil where I specifically support Offsites and Utilities for technical projects such as tanks, steam, cooling, air, power, and water. This technical role has helped me gain greater insite on what students actually need to know out in industry, and it is something that I make sure to pass down to my students.
Overall, I have over 3000 hours of tutoring experience and have worked with hundreds of students in my 9 years of tutoring, whether it be one-on-one or group tutoring with up to 70 students. I greatly enjoy helping my classmates become successful in their academic endeavors, and I hope to help you become successful in yours too!
Outside of school, I really enjoy camping, hiking, fishing, playing music, exercising, and cooking! I look forward to making meaningful connections with my students to help them become the strongest version of themselves!
