Jack Duffin

Hi, my name is Jack Duffin, and I am currently a mechanical design engineer at Tesla and am a recent graduate from Virginia Tech. I will be tutoring deforms, dynamics, statics, and differential equations this semester. Before I was a tutor here, I hired Scott as my tutor! Being a student under Scott has taught me so much more about engineering than what was covered in class and overall has directly contributed to my success here at Virginia Tech. Because of my time as a student under Scott, I want to teach students and help elevate them like Scott did with me.

Currently at Tesla, I am responsible for all interior lighting systems for the Model S, Model X and Semi truck. This includes designing new parts (I can’t talk about :O), managing suppliers in Germany and China to meet car production requirements, and seeing some really cool products move through our office.

During my time at Virginia Tech, I have sought to expand my engineering skills in design teams such as Formula SAE and the ARL arm exoskeleton team. During Formula SAE, I designed parts on the car and gained a deep understanding of the mechanical design process and how to make critical decisions in an intense design team. In the ARL arm exoskeleton team I learned how to communicate to underclassmen about complex design problems and help them succeed in their designs.

In my free time, I enjoy swimming, playing in chess tournaments, cooking new recipes for my friends, and obsessing over coffee.
